The holidays are right around the corner and you know what that means…
It’s time to deck those halls and give your home that magical holiday makeover!
I have to admit, I’m a total Christmas junkie. And I mean Total. Christmas. Junkie. Let’s just say I don’t stop at just one Christmas tree. I’m at six and counting. It’s like I’ve got a full-blown holiday headquarters with enough ornaments and decor to make Santa jealous;) But, what I don’t have is a lot of storage, so I have to be careful (as my husband politely reminds me) that our Christmas quota has a max. And that I’m clearly past it.
Call it “extra” or call it “over the top”…but, I call it pure holiday happiness. As an interior designer, I love being fully immersed in the magic of the Christmas season.
And if you’re reading this post, you might want to bring in some of that holiday magic, too. So, let’s get to it and share the top three holiday trends that are everywhere in 2024.
Oh, and make sure to check out the Holiday Decorating Guides that I created for you. There’s not just one, but two, with LOTS of links to help you create some holiday magic!
Holiday Decorating Trend #1
Natural and Neutral Decor
This year, it’s all about bringing the outdoors inside with touches of nature. Think pinecones, natural greenery stems, natural wood accents, and lots of whites.
It’s really a soft, beautiful, organic vibe and I’m here for ALL of it. Don’t get me wrong, I love a traditional red and green holiday color palette and plan to keep that classic Christmas look in parts of my home. But, adding some natural elements in is something I’m excited to do this year. I started including some neutral and natural touches last year with a natural themed tree to change things up (pictured at the bottom of this post) and some neutral decor, but this year I’ll add a little more as I really liked it.

Holiday Decorating Trend #2
Vintage Inspired Decor
The second holiday decorating trend is vintage inspired decor and ornaments. Ever since the pandemic, vintage has been having a big moment and isn’t slowing down. Vintage decor is comforting and there’s something so magical about decorations that look like they could have graced your grandma’s tree back in the day. World Market has a lot of vintage glass ornaments that are great quality. I’ve also seen a lot of vintage ornaments from traditional holiday classics like Rudolph that are adorable. Those ornaments are more expensive, but really high-quality.
- Set of 12 Vintage-Looking Glass Ornaments
- Buy retro and vintage Christmas Ornaments from Old World Christmas online. (I’ve seen many of these class ornaments in person and they are really great quality).
- Set of 4 Vintage Glass Ornaments

Holiday Decorating Trend #3
Velvet Decor and Velvet Bows
The final holiday decorating trend that is EVERYWHERE right now is velvet. It’s having a huge moment and I’m seeing velvet pillows, velvet tree skirts, and velvet ornaments and decor. But what is even more popular in velvet is BOWS! Velvet bows are the hottest decorating trend of 2024.
But the trick with the velvet bow trend is that they’re very soft and don’t have any wiring that could make them stiff and hold their shape. The velvet bow decorating trend is about unstructured bows that just hang with a very casual, relaxed look. I’ve seen velvet bows on wreaths or garland with vintage gold bells. And I’ve even seen the cutest Christmas tree trend of a whole tree of bows with very little decor. Whether you go full-out with LOTS of bows, or go for a more minimal look and have them scattered on your tree, velvet bows are having their decor moment.
Final Thoughts...
Although I’ve shared three big holiday decorating trends, I think that the holidays and holiday decorations are very personal to every family. And I think that what’s most important is that the decorations in your home make you happy. Each year when I unpack our holiday decor, I get so excited seeing each and every piece that I’ve collected over the years. Each special piece brings back memories that really bring me a lot of joy and comfort.
Holiday decorating trends come and go, but investing in pieces you love will never go out of style. Who knows, maybe something I’ve share with you here will become a favorite Christmas treasure for you. Happy Decorating!
